Erin Dederich Awarded Multiple Scholarships

Erin Dederich, a correspondent for the Mail Newspapers, has achieved multiple scholarships and recognitions throughout her senior year. Erin was chosen by the OHS staff as the nominee for the Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship for Olympia High School and was awarded this scholarship at Olympia. She also got the National Honor Society Scholarship and was awarded the scholarship at the national level.

Erin applied for the YICU “Why I See You - For a Better Tomorrow” award and was recognized for her “community service and hard work in McLean County.” Erin’s hard work in school also paid off and she was able to achieve two more awards, one being the Illinois State Scholar award for her high test scores and grades compared to other high schoolers in Illinois. The other award was the College Board National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program due to her good test scores on the SAT based on her demographics.

It is obvious that Erin has put in lots of hard work throughout her high school career to achieve these awards and it has all paid off. Next year Erin will be attending Central College in Pella, Iowa where she will major in exercise science to go on to become a physical therapist. Erin will also be playing volleyball and basketball at Central and after she graduates she plans on going to grad school to get her doctorate in physical therapy. She is “very excited to continue [her] athletic career beyond high school” and “learn about physical therapy and exercise science a lot more.”

Erin is a heavily involved student with her being the Student Council President, an NHS Officer, in yearbook, STEM club, volleyball, basketball, track and field, FCA, Bank Board, Blue Crew, football film tech, and senior class board. In her free time, she enjoys playing sports, weight lifting, and hanging with family and friends. Erin still is hoping to earn a few scholarships on top of her many and then will work towards high honor roll, good citizenship, multi-sport athlete, and other club awards at Olympia
