Softball Asst. Coach Darrel Dubree

Darrel Dubree is the Olympia High School softball assistant coach. Dubree started his coaching career at Olympia in 2009 as a volunteer coach for the high school team. That year, the Spartans won a state championship. Since then, he hasn’t turned back from working with the Spartans. Dubree has spent his entire coaching career at Olympia. He became the high school assistant and the middle school assistant coach in 2011, then became the middle school head coach in 2016. Before his time working with school softball, Dubree coached travel softball throughout the years that his daughter played for the Oly Fire organization. His first year in that role was in 2001, and he has filled assistant and head coaching roles throughout the last 20 years. It is safe to say that Dubree is committed to Olympia softball.

Dubree described the best part of his role as a coach by stating, “The best part is coaching both at the middle school and high school levels. I get to see girls start out in 6th grade, then grow and develop into talented, successful high school athletes and young ladies.” Dubree does a great job of filling in where needed and working with the plan head coach Courtney Hoffman puts in place. Dubree wants to send a special thank you to all of the coaches he has had the opportunity to learn from over the years! The lessons learned have guided him on how to best fulfill his role as head coach at the middle school level. As a coach, Dubree strives to “coach players to be softball smart and work to really understand the game of softball”. He stated that it is very important to him to teach every athlete to be a good person, above anything else. This includes, “being respectful to their teammates, coaches, teachers, and parents.”

Throughout his many years at Olympia, Dubree believes that his favorite memory was seeing his daughter Claire come in as the relief pitcher to help lead her team to the 2010 sectional championship. Overall, it would be coaching throughout Claire’s high school career. Dubree is devoted to Olympia Softball, and the program has him to thank for that. Whether it be bringing snacks for a big game or throwing endless buckets of front toss in the cage, the softball team can count on Coach Darrel to be there for them.
