OHS Weekly Sports Recap

On Monday, softball and baseball both competed at home versus Prairie Central. Softball won 5-4 with a walk-off bunt from Freshman Jordyn Turner. Mariah Maris tied the game with a squeeze play bunt that brought in Kennedy Smith. Baseball won big over the Hawks, with Ryan Cleinmark leading the team to a 9-1 win. Cleinmark had four hits for the Spartans.

Tuesday was the day that teams began their transitions from regular season to postseason. Softball and baseball were away at Prairie Central for their last regular season games. Softball lost 6-5, despite a 7th inning three run homerun from Danika Frazier. Baseball lost 5-4, and Josh Devore had a double during the game. Boys track and field was away at Central Catholic for the Illini Prairie Conference meet. They placed third as a team. Owen Dare won the 800m race, Charlie Kistner won both the 1600m and 3200m, and the 4x800m relay team also won! Wrestling was away at St. Thomas Moore with Prairie Central at the meet. The Spartan wrestlers competed very well, and Kade Lollar brought home one of the many wins the Spartans had. Finally, girls soccer was away at Monticello for their first regional game, and they lost to end their well-played season.

On Wednesday, girls track and field competed at sectionals, which is their first round of postseason. The girls placed seventh overall. Savanah Beavers advanced to the state competition in the 1600m and the 3200m. She won the 3200m at the sectional meet and placed second in the 1600m.

Thursday, softball began their postseason play with a 15-0 win against Spring Valley Hall. Danika Frazier threw a no-hitter in the four inning, run-rule win for the Spartans.

On Friday, baseball began their first postseason game with a regional semifinal win over PBL 2-1. Andrew Nichols was the starting pitcher in the game, and did a great job keeping the PBL team with an over .400 on base percentage from scoring more than one run. Baseball will play in the regional championship game at Shelbyville on Monday. Softball competed in their regional championship on Friday and won 4-2 against St. Bede Academy. Mariah Maris had another successful squeeze bunt, which led to both Chloe Scroggins and Kat Springer to bring in runs with the bases loaded. Softball will play in the Sectional semifinal game on Tuesday at home versus Kewanee.
