OHS Sports Recap

Boys Soccer kicked off the week of sports for the Olympia High School Spartans on Monday with a game at home vs St. Thomas More. Going into the game the Spartans were 3-1, but unfortunately they lost to the Sabers 4-0. When asked about the game senior Payton Carroll stated, “I would say that even though we lost there was definitely an improvement from how the game went last year against St. Thomas More, and it’s nice to see the improvement that we’ve made.”

The Boys Soccer team had a chance for redemption at home vs Tolono Unity on Tuesday. However, the Tolono team did not show up for the game so the Spartans won by default. The volleyball team was away at Illinois Valley Central High School and lost in 2 sets to a strong IVC team that is 4-2 on the year. IVC is a top team in the Illini Prairie Conference and is led by a very good sophomore outside hitter.

The next matchup for the Olympia High School Spartans was on Thursday where boys soccer faced Monticello at home and lost 5-1. Volleyball was away at Monticello and fell in 3 sets with a very hard fought third set. Outside hitters Kaitlyn Dean and Bella Dickhut both had 13 kills, while libero Abbi Bode had 17 digs for the night. Chloe Scroggins had 21 assists. The volleyball seniors will be recognized on Saturday, March 27th at their game against Pontiac. The 2021 Olympia Volleyball seniors are Kaitlyn Dean, Bella Dickhut, Abbi Bode, Abby Stine, and Chloe Scroggins.

On Friday, football also recognized their seniors at their first home game of the season against Central Catholic. The home opener was an exciting game where Olympia defeated the Saints 19 to 17 at the annual Corn Bowl! There are 13 seniors on the 2021 squad, who are Ethan Davis, Noah Reber, Hayden Stork, Ryan Cleinmark, Hunter Berges, Nate Olsen, Ethan Keedy, Luke Priebe, Landen Alcorn, Ethan Neal, Drew Bedwell, Nate Marshall, and Cade Morlock. Next week the boys will face Pontiac in an away game. Also on Friday, the Speech Team competed in the Group Interpretation category at IHSA State. They sent in a video of their performance to be reviewed, but unfortunately they did not advance to the finals.
